Our main objective is to give guidance to prospective advanced riders who wish to take the IAM Advanced Riding Test and to enjoy riding with others who put safety and courtesy as important factors.
Who are we? Well we are the local Cornish Motorcycle group of the IAM, a charity organisation promoting Advanced Motorcycle riding. Our aim is to promote safer motorcycling thought the use of Advanced training.
We hold regular monthly social events and rides. Social events could be just a meet at a local inn for a chat or ride somewhere, or a hall with a guest speaker. Monthly rides are open to members when they have passed their Advanced test, or when their Observer thinks their riding is up to the required standard. This ensures that you can be confident that the people you are out riding with will be competent and safe riders also out to enjoy themselves with fellow experienced riders. Devon & Cornwall Police Road Safety Unit
The Devon and Cornwall Constabulary, through the Force Motorcycle Wing, are committed to encouraging the sensible use of motorcycles within the Force area. We believe there are many advantages to choosing motorcycles as a preferred form of transport in terms of reduced traffic congestion, shorter journey times and decreased pollution.
We also recognise that motorcyclists are a vulnerable road user group so we actively promote the various post test training courses that teach advanced riding techniques based on the Police System of Motorcycle Control. We firmly believe that it is our training that keeps us safe on the roads and we want more people to go on to take similar training in order for them to appreciate the pleasures that can be gained from riding safely and skillfully.
To this end we participate in the national BikeSafe scheme which gives an insight into Advanced Riding techniques. Our BikeSafe sessions last a whole day and are part classroom based with a practical assessment of your riding from a Police Advanced Motorcyclist. The sessions cost £25 per person. For further details visit our Force Website www.devon-cornwall.police.uk

Not all lifesavers come in the form of paramedics and Pilots, - without the army of fund raisers backing them, Cornwall's Air Ambulance would have flown its last airborne mission many years age.
Operational costs for the Cornwall Air Ambulance in 1987 was £250,000 and in 2007 it will cost £1,250,000.
This includes the lease of the aircraft, pilots, service engineers, spares, servicing and insurances, as well as a charge of some £440 per flying hour to cover fuel and other combustibles.
The cost of the two paramedics is paid for by the Cornwall Ambulance Service.
This was the first Air Ambulance in the UK and was a unique experience for everyone. There was a great feeling of excitement in the challenge of this then, unknown territory from the paramedics and their pilot, to the control staff that was to direct the Air Ambulance to the type of missions they should fly.
It was very apparent that the geography of Cornwall lent itself to the concept of an Air Ambulance. Beaches, inaccessible cliff tops, acres of moorland, farm land and congested roads, particularly in summer, all made the work of land vehicles more difficult and time consuming.
The distance to the major hospitals from many parts of Cornwall made the Air Ambulance a vital life saving mode of transport. From its base at RCH Treliske it could reach any part of the county in twenty minutes, and the Isles of Scilly in twenty-eight minutes. In 1989 the Air Ambulance took up its new and present base at RAF St Mawgan.
